Bear Haven Cabin's Restaurant guide
These are some of our favorite places to dine out in Big Bear.
Coffee/Donuts
Moonridge Coffee Co
They are just a quick drive down to lower Moonridge on the right hand side of Moonridge road. Get your coffee and sit by the fire in a log cabin setting. Great espresso, lattes, and locally made pasteries makes Moonridge Coffee Company our go to place. There are also a few Starbucks in town, one inside Vons, and a full store in the Vons parking lots.
Dank Donuts
In the summer I get on my motorcycle to ride around the lake and I always finish my ride here. They have the best donuts and great coffee. Being Canadian I love their Maple Bar, but they also make an incredible Pineapple Fritter. Dank Donuts sits at 6857 ft, making us the highest donut shop on the West Coast! Being on this island in the sky means the air is thinner, making our donuts fluffier, and different than anything you will taste at sea level. Here at Dank Donuts, no two donuts are the same. Our Donuteers hand cut each donut, and infuse love into each bundle of dough. We are cooking up traditional yeast-risen, golden-fried classics with recipes passed down from Old School Donuteers. On top of the traditional Donuts we all crave, we also serve Vegan, and Gluten-Free donuts!
Breakfast
Grizzly Manor Cafe
Suzie and I are not big breakfast eaters, but we have to recommend Grizzly Manor Cafe. This place always has a huge line outside pretty much because the food is incredible and the prices are reasonable. You will leave here stuffed and ready to take on your mountain day.
Lumberjack Cafe
This is a little hole in the wall place that my kids love to go to when they are in Big Bear. Breakfast is great here, our son-in-n-out-outlaw raves about the lumberjack potatoes. They are not dog friendly and that has hurt their reviews, but the food is excellent!
Teddy Bear’s
Another breakfast spot that is always busy. They are located in the heart of the village. Wonderful food, you have to try the Teddy Benedict, it is a fluffy biscuit topped with a mound of pastrami, poached egg, swiss cheese, and instead of hollandaise it is topped with their biscuit gravy. Also, the brown sugar bacon is out of this world. Thankfully it’s in the Village so you can walk off your meal!
Mexican
Hacienda
is our first choice for mexican food on the mountain. They have a great salsa bar and the drinks here really pack a punch. This is a nice traditional mexican restaurant on the blvd with plenty of parking.
El Jacalito
is the sister restaurant to Hacienda and is located in the Village @ Pine Knot road. The food in great at both places, though parking can be a challenge on a busy night at this location.
Fine Dining
The Peppercorn Grille (Romantic)
is one of our favorite restaurants up here. It is about as upscale as a mountain restaurant can get without being pretentious. It is perfect for a romantic dinner or a fancy lunch. Located in the Village reservations are a must on weekend nights and the restaurant is not kid friendly, it is certainly geared to a nice quiet dining experience.
The Pines-Lakefront Dining (Romantic)
On a site that has been with the Big Bear community since the 1920’s when the Stillwell’s opened their first restaurant, The Pines Lakefront brings back a location that has its roots directly tied to the lake. With a commanding view of the lake and surrounding mountains, the diner can relax on the new garden patio area with its shade pergola that affords an unobstructed view of the lake while shielding the tables from the hot summer sun. With the addition of fencing and a glass windscreen, the patio becomes a very cozy spot to enjoy the offerings from the kitchen and bar.
Captains Anchorage
has been a fixture in Big Bear since 1947. This is an old school steak house with leather booths and dim lighting. The food is traditional american steak house. It is rumored that the restaurant is haunted by a ghost named George, who was the restaurants one time accountant. So go get a table, have a great meal and see if you meet George.
The Oakside
We love this place! Especially in summer when we can dine on the front patio and listen to live music during the lunch and dinner hours. The food is great and the cocktails are even better. I have had the American Wagyu sliders and Suzie likes the street tacos. Your diet will not be happy if you order the Mac n cheese tater tots, but your tummy will love you! Reservation are a must for weekend dinners.
Burgers
Get The Burger
This is one of our favorite places to get a burger anywhere. Eric and Lynn are wonderful owners and they treat everyone like friends when you walk in.The meat that they use is made especially for Eric according to his recipe. The burgers are phenomenal and they also have a great Chicago hot dog. They also make hand dipped shakes and malts. While the building looks like a fast food place it is definitely not fast food and there is a sign right when you walk in telling you that. But it is well worth the wait.
At Fire Rock Burgers & Brews we strive to serve rockin’ burgers & delicious craft beers! Come enjoy a rock ‘n’ roll atmosphere, dog friendly patios, live music & much more! Located in the Village of Big Bear Lake
Wyatt's Cafe features Comfort Food with an Attitude including burgers, flatbread pizzas, wings and more. We are very family friendly, great for large groups and there is never a wait for a table! Wyatt's Saloon offers draft and bottled domestic and craft beers, a full bar and specialty cocktails. Don't forget to bring your dancing boots to boot scoot the night away on our giant dance floor!
Vegetarian
The Himalayan
While there are many choices for dining out in Big Bear few places rival The Himalayan for their vegetarian dishes. The Himalayan Restaurant serves a variety of authentic menu selections popular in Nepal, Tibet, and in northern India. The food is always fresh and delicious. Located in the heart of the Village.
Pizza and Pasta
Saucy Mama’s Pizza
This is great place in the Village for pizza, pasta and brews. The pizza is fantastic, also try the garlic fries and the rolled lasagna. They have several TV’s with sporting events playing and a covered patio for outdoor dining. This is a fun and loud place to have a slice and a brew.
Maggio’s Pizza
They are located in the Interlaken shopping center near Vons. This place has been around for years and there is a reason why, nothing fancy or hip about this place, just good old fashion family run Italian restaurant. This is our go to place when we want to take a hot cheesy pie back home.
Sweet Basil Bistro
Not your typical pizza place, this is an upscale version of you Italian favorites. Try the Lobster Lasagne or the house made macaroni and cheese. All their sauces are made in house and they are so delicious.
